Jerry was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. One of five siblings, Jerry enjoyed family trips to the coast and developed a lifelong love of music and cars.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam, Jerry made his way to Minnesota where he met and married the love of his life, Anne (O’Brien) Barbur, his wife of 50 years.
Drawing upon skills and training he received in the U.S. Air Force, Jerry went on to enjoy a long and successful career in the field of telecommunications.
A genuine “Mr. Fix-it,” Jerry never met a gadget he didn’t need or a project he wouldn’t tackle. The ultimate car lover and mechanic at heart, Jerry was passionate about classic cars, all things engines and the importance of proper snow tires. He never missed a Back to the Fifties and was a reliable source for back issues of Popular Mechanics and the Auto Trader.
Jerry’s biggest passion was spending time with his family. He was always there for his loved ones however they needed him - with fierce loyalty, a goofy joke or a supportive presence. Jerry particularly relished stepping into the role of a grandfather. His grandchildren loved him dearly and brought him endless amounts of joy.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Inez Howard, father and stepmother Donald and Margaret Barbur and brother Donald Barbur. He is survived by his wife Anne Barbur, children Todd (Laura) Hertner, Carissa (Andy) Fettig and Ryan (Elif) Barbur. Also survived by grandchildren Riley (Emily), Reese, John, Emily and Griffin. Jerry is also survived by a brother Denny (Marla), sisters Jill and Jody (Dave) and many other relatives and friends.
