Born on July 31, 1997, in Minnesota, Gillian embraced life with a spirit as bold and radiant as her unique style. She often delighted in saying, "I have the same birthday as Harry Potter," a testament to her whimsical charm and love for the little joys in life.
Growing up in Andover, MN, Gillian attended Wilson Elementary, Fred Moore Middle School, and Anoka High School. She was an avid swimmer, spending six years competing with the Anoka Swim Team—a love that began when she was just 10 months old during her first swimming pool adventure, revealing an early and deep connection to the water.
At 18, Gillian pursued cosmetology at Aveda but soon discovered her true calling in massage therapy. She thrived in this field, first at Kai Salon in Champlin and later at Team Health Care Clinic also in Champlin, where she excelled in a clinical setting, bringing comfort and healing to her clients.
Beyond her profession, Gillian was a visionary with an eye for art and expression. She loved photo shoots and worked tirelessly to break into modeling, always pushing boundaries with her alternative fashion, vibrant hair, and collection of tattoos and piercings that reflected her fearless individuality.
Music was the heartbeat of Gillian’s life. She embraced every genre but had a special place in her heart for EDM, proudly calling herself a “rave baby” and always showing up in the most snatched rave outfits. Concerts were her sanctuary, and her love for live music was undeniable— If you knew her, you knew she loved Post Malone.
Gillian found the love of her life in Kevin Phonsavanh six and a half years ago, and together, they built a beautiful bond filled with laughter, adventure, and deep affection. Those who knew them both had always assumed they would be planning a wedding, not a funeral, making her loss all the more heartbreaking.
More than anything, Gillian was a people person. She believed in seeing the good in others and went out of her way to spread kindness, often approaching strangers just to tell them they were beautiful or compliment their style—always with sincerity and an open heart. She radiated joy, connection, and a desire to uplift those around her.
Gillian was a force—a passionate soul who embraced life unapologetically, inspiring those around her to do the same. Her boldness, warmth, and creativity will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.
Gillian also carried immense strength, facing one of life’s toughest battles with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She fought bravely, enduring the challenges of treatment with resilience and unwavering positivity. Even in the hardest moments, she found ways to smile, to lift up those around her, and to cherish the life she loved so fiercely. Her determination, courage, and refusal to let the illness define her inspired everyone who had the privilege of walking beside her during her fight.
May her spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.
