She was born on March 21, 1930 to Edward Nils and Olga (Hjelle) Johnson and grew up on a farm in Kittson County, Minnesota near the town of Karlstad. She was an excellent student, an avid 4H-er and member of the Luther League. After graduating as “salutatorian” of her class, Harriet went on to teacher training. She had fond memories of teaching grades 1-8 in a one room school in northwestern Minnesota.
Harriet's good friend, Joyce, had a nice boyfriend named Morris. Morris had a handsome brother named Irvin. It was Joyce's idea that Harriet and Irvin might like each other. Irvin wrote an introductory letter to Harriet, Harriet wrote back, etc., etc. Harriet married Irvin on August 30, 1952. After living in an apartment for a couple of years, they bought a house in Fridley, Minnesota where Harriet lived until just a few weeks ago.
Harriet Lindstrom was a Proverbs 31 woman. She had many skills and talents which she passed on to her children and others around her. She always had knitting needles in her hands and continued to knit dish cloths until just this past July. She gave dish cloths away to everyone, even complete strangers, who crossed her path. Harriet's “love language” was food. She loved to cook and bake and took great joy in feeding her family. Harriet's apple pies were epic, her lefse translucent and her date cookies divine.
Above all, Harriet loved Jesus. She and Irvin were active in their church serving as deacons, deaconesses, trustees, Sunday school teachers and faithful stewards. She prayed every day for her four children and their spouses, Timothy (Karen), Rebecca (Keith), Thomas (Kathryn) and Charlotte (Steven); her eleven beloved grandchildren, Kelly (Craig) Pouliot, Tanya (Alan) Ng, Samuel (Melanie) Nelson, Jonathan (Shantel) Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Christopher Cole, Andrew Cole, Daniel Cole, Stewart Lindstrom, Kenneth Lindstrom and Martin Lindstrom; and her three great-grand children, Cole Pouliot, Camden and Bella Ng.
Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin, in 2006; her parents; her brother Norman; several brothers and sisters-in-law, two nephews and two nieces. She is survived by her family, her sisters Lorraine and Bernice, and her sister-in-law and good friend, Joyce.
