James A. Jadwin was renowned for his large stature, baritone voice, and compassionate nature. Jim was born to Russel and Marie and grew up in Minneapolis, MN with his older brothers Tom and Rich. He graduated from Washburn High School, and often told stories of what it was like to be a center lineman in the era of single-bar facemasks. They called him “Crow,” and he had the vintage letterman jacket to prove it. The crow’s name was “Jim,” and he used to hitch rides on the handlebars – or so the story goes.
Jim started a job at a law firm when he was 18 years old. His first position was in the mail room. Over time, he gained additional responsibilities and moved into more interesting work. He spent more than 53 years at that law firm; a testament to his loyalty. He told many interesting tales related to his arson investigation work and personal injury missions.
He met and married Mary Jo, and it stayed that way until the day he died, about 49 and a half years later. They lived on a hobby farm in Dayton, MN for most of that time, and had a wonderful partnership. He was active in local government, serving on both the city council and as mayor. He was a member of the local Lions Club for decades, and recently recognized for 50 years of membership to the Freemason Scottish Rite. Jim was also well-known for his more “tailored” charitable contributions. Countless people have benefited from his costumed visits bringing good cheer. He wore that red holiday suit for over 40 years – just think about how many wishes he heard, how many dreams he held, and how much exuberance he shared.
Jim was an inspiring father to his biological children, Kristie and Frank. He was also a delighted foster father, a comical uncle, wise mentor, and friend to many. He was honored to be a father in-law (Katie), and as proud as any grandparent can be to Ina; but will miss the joy of meeting his second granddaughter due this June.
Jim had legendary tails of his mountain climbing adventures and European backpacking trip. He shared his skills and knowledge for years in with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a very kind person and had a special attitude for how to move through life. Life wasn’t particularly kind to him in the final years, but his legacy was written long before that. And even in his more trying times, he was still full of character and reliable catch phrases. He was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
