James Harry Slimmer

James Harry Slimmer (Jim), age 70, of Green Valley, AZ, Rice, MN, and Coon Rapids, MN, passed away Saturday July 15, 2023. He was born in Little Falls, MN to parents Kenneth and Doris Slimmer. Jim Graduated in 1971 from Coon Rapids High School. He worked 38 years for flexible packaging in Minneapolis, MN. He was the president of Local 29-C Union until merging with Local 1-M where he was Secretary-Treasurer until his retirement in 2019. Jim's dream job was working at a golf course, and he realized this dream in his position at Oakhill Golf Club in Rice, MN.

Jim is survived by best friend, Jean Mansfield Kienitz; wife, Rita Slimmer. Children: Matthew (Mikayla) Slimmer, Sarah (Jacob) Paulsen; and special girls Gabby and Pacey Olson, who were like granddaughters to Jim. Brothers: Ken and Tim Slimmer; Sister Cindy Ayers, and Auntie Dorothy Slimmer.

Jim loved and was beloved by many people including his Bonus extended family - Children: Jamie (Todd) Rouz, Bryan (Carrie) Johnson, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons. Brothers: Michael (Rita), RIchard (Kim), Robert (Karen) and James (Wendy) Mansfield. Sisters: Diane Selbitsschka, Pat (Dwight) Hildebrand, and Ann (Dave) Carr. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Jim was a Christian and was very involved in the Children's Ministries at his church LCM. He volunteered as a camp counselor at God's Grainery. He enjoyed playing hockey, golf, pickleball, cycling, gardening, and traveling. Jim was a member of the Santa Cruz Car Nuts and loved working on his '72 Nova. We will miss his smile, his jokes, hugs, and his stories.

A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at Oakhill Golf Club in Rice, MN on Saturday August 19th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
