age 90, of Blaine passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29 after a 3-year battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Fred A. Riddle and Florence Ethel Riddle; two Brothers, Harry and Clifford; Husband, Howard J. Nystrom; Granddaughter, Mary Meckel Hard; Great-grandson, Timothy Hughes.
Maxine will be greatly missed by her surviving loved ones including her Special Friend, Harold “Staff” Stafford; Sisters, Joyce Dethlefs and Shirley Hopp and their families; Children, Larry Winbauer (Connie), Penny Cantazaro, Kathy Wall (Robert), Nancy Meckel, James Winbauer; Stepchildren, Dale Nystrom (Nancy) and Debra Nystrom Hoefs (John); Grandchildren, Timothy Dehaan, Carrie Cantazaro Rocha (Marco), Anthony Cantazaro, Brian Wall (Natasha), Nicholas Wall (Amanda), Charlene Meckel, Michael Hoefs (Jill), Jeffrey Hoefs (Julie), Anna Hoefs Kudak (Brent) and David Hoefs (Kelly); plus twenty-two Great grandchildren.
Maxine lived a full life involved with many family activities in Minnesota, Iowa and Alaska. She enjoyed traveling, photography, bird watching, golf, football and community service.
She found great joy and friendship in more than 30 years of involvement with the Fridley VFW Post 363. Twice she led the VFW Post 363 Ladies’ Auxiliary as President. She served one term as the State of Minnesota President for the VFW Military Order of the Cootie. Maxine was deeply committed to our nation’s veterans visiting them in VA hospitals, regularly donating blood, and participating in VFW service opportunities across the state from catering luncheons to making donuts for the Jerry Lewis telethon to helping at St. Cloud’s Festival of Nations.
Maxine’s funeral will be on Friday, August 2 at the Gearhart Funeral Home 11275 Foley Blvd NW Coon Rapids with visitation at 10 am followed at 11 by a funeral service and luncheon.
Interment will follow the luncheon at 1:30 in the Morningside Cemetery, Coon Rapids.
