Dotti, as she was known to those who loved her, was born in Manhattan to her late parents, Joseph and Mary (nee Kovarik) Novotny. She was raised in East New York, graduating from Julia Richmond High School. She met her future husband, Salvatore Restivo when he would help her mom carry her groceries home from the market. Her mom, Mary, would tell Dotti, “I have someone you need to meet”. They married in 1946.
Dotti’s affinity for leadership led her to a career in Administration. When she retired after many years with the Montauk Manor Nursing Home in Lindenhurst; Dotti now had the time to delve into the things she enjoyed.
Her son, Daniel, Sr., recalled his mom’s caring of her family, and her friends. Dan told a story of how he would come home from work to find his friends waiting for him to get home so they could go out. Dotti had his friends fed and watered to the point where they most likely never moved from the house! While she did not imbibe herself, she would make an exception for a rare Canadian Club. Dotti enjoyed watching the Monday Night Fights with Dan, and occasionally you would find her on the back of Dan’s Harley as they tooled through the Village. She enjoyed a simple daily walk into the Village to do a little shopping, and it was most important to her and her faith to attend weekly Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church where she was a lifelong parishioner. Dotti had many people she held close who influenced her greatly, and she counted S. Catherine Hagens, the former Principal of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School; and Dr. Galati, who made her days by visiting her daily with deliveries of her favorite ice cream.
Surviving Dotti is her beloved family – her son, Daniel E. Sr. and daughter-in-law, Theresa; her grandson, Daniel, Jr.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dotti is predeceased by her beloved husband, Salvatore; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Lou; her niece, Joanie; her dear friend and neighbor, Julie Manford; her mother-in-law, Lillian; and her furbaby, Teko.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home for visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:30 and 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lindenhurst. Entombment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale.
