Elaine was the first-born to the late John E. Moore, Sr. and Marjorie A. Moore of the Bronx, New York. She was born on January 30, 1941 and departed this life on August 1, 2012, surrounded by her family, which is the way she wanted it to be.
Elaine graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958. She lived on 820 Boynton Avenue in the Bronx for about 10 years. She worked for the HCC (Harlem Commonwealth Council) for about ten years. Elaine then moved to Adrian Avenue in the Bronx where she lived for twenty years.
In her years of work, Elaine was also a travel agent, and worked with Harriet Martin. She then worked together with her good friend, Myrna; until her death. She began working for the New York Times in 1988, and retired in 2001. She often spoke about the Times and how much she enjoyed working there. She made many lifetime friends who kept in touch with her over the years.
Finding a love of travel, she has visited Egypt, Africa, Greece, Spain, Brazil, England and many other places. She also loved to eat out, always willing to try new and different dishes. Elaine had a weird sense of humor, and many times we would sit around and laugh about silly and serious issues. She was also fiesty and could be stubborn at times.
And, she gave her life to Christ. A couple of days before her demise, she discussed with her sister, Virginia, the goodness of the Lord.
Elaine leaves behind her brother, John E. Moore, Jr.; and her sisters - Dr. Virginia Moore and Marjory Moore. Also surviving are her Aunt Mary and Aunt Lucille; her nieces - Caprica Moore, Brianna Moore, Monique Stone, Monica Phylllips, Kayla Johnson, Brianna Pugh, Mlayshia Stone and Ahlani Moore; her nephews - John Edward Moore III (JJ), Edward John Moore, Rashaan Pugh, Maurice Pugh, Jonathan Moore, Brandon Moore, Christopher Bowie, Michael Moore, Dashawn Moore and Nathaniel Harvey; and her Godson, Christopher Marine. Fondly remembered are some very special people - Judy Zuckerman (of Florida) for 50 years; Shirley Casterlow of 20 years; Cousins Michelle, Barbara and Gloria; and a host of family and friends.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, August 11, 2012, as Elaine's life is celebrated at a Service to begin at 10:00 a.m. Following services, Elaine's urn will be interred at Amityville Cemetery (Harrison Avenue, Amityville) at 12 Noon.
If guests wish, the family is gathering for lunch following services at the Red Lobster on Sunrise Highway in Amityville. Everyone is welcome to gather, and lunch will be at your own expense.
