James Micheal Prochaska, affectionately known as Toughie or Jim to his closest of friends, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2026, at the age of 69. Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 10, 1957, and spent his early years there.
Jim’s love of working out began in 1976 when he joined “The Gym” and immediately fit right in. Everyone loved him and he was always there to help, whether it was working out together, spotting someone or getting someone psyched up for a new personal record.
He attended Valparasio University on a full football scholarship as a middle linebacker. After graduation he was offered the opportunity to walk on with the Chicago Bears. Although it didn’t work out, he was grateful for the chance to pursue football at the professional level.
He then turned his focus back to the gym and powerlifting competitions. His dedication to the sport and hard work paid off as he won numerous meets and set new records.
For the past 35 years, Jim devoted himself to the gym and the gym business, consistently pursuing his passion for fitness and strength. He touched the lives of many, never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with warmth and genuine kindness. He made a lasting impression on all who knew him and will be remembered for the positive difference he made and the support he gave to those around him.
Jim is survived by two of his greatest joys, his children, Austin James Prochaska of Flower Mound, Texas, and Baylee Diane Prochaska of Dove Creek, Colorado. He was a devoted father who took immense pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent with them.
