Jeanne Audrey Midgette Wasiak, 91, passed away from natural causes in Flower Mound, Texas on August 15, 2021, surrounded by loving family. She was born in Brooklyn, New York to Catherine and Lavene Midgette. Faithful always, and with a joyful heart, she was devoted to God, her family and her community. She was a passionately supportive Army officer’s wife, brilliant bridge player, entertainer and writer. Known for her competitive spirit, she would chide her children if they complained that something was too hard and insist, “You’re a Wasiak, and Wasiaks can do hard things!” She was as fond of roses as she was of her children. She was the consummate lady for her husband, and she was known for her devotion to the Blessed Mother.
She earned two degrees with high honors, a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Texas at El Paso and a M.A. in Catholic Theology from the University of Dallas. A fierce advocate for elder care and religious values, she worked as a manager for El Paso’s Westside Senior Activity Center and for Meals on Wheels; as a Natural Family Planning Counselor; and as a columnist for the Catholic Diocese of El Paso parish newsletters.
She is survived by the love of her life, her husband Joseph Wasiak, Sr. (U.S. Army Colonel, Retired); her seven children Joseph Wasiak, Jr. (Jennifer Blum Wasiak), Douglas Wasiak, Mark Wasiak (Lynnda Hedrick Wasiak), Michael Wasiak, Mary Wasiak (Will van Overbeek), Margaret Casey (Barry Casey), Kathryn Rose (David McSpadden); twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Please join the family at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Coppell on Wednesday, August 25th at a 9:00 am Funeral Mass. Family procession will follow to the National Cemetery in Dallas.
A Celebration of Life reception will be held from 12:30 to 3:00 at the Embassy Suites Hotel on 2410 Bass Pro Drive, Grapevine, Texas 76051
