Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Billy J. & Catherine Gladys Wolfe. Mark was married to Kay, the love of his life, for 47 years.
Mark and his wife, Kay, founded RE/MAX DFW Associates in 1983. It was initially staffed by Mark as Broker/President and Kay as Vice President/Receptionist. Over time the company grew to five offices and, at its peak, engaged more than 300 agents. Mark was proud of the fact that over 50 of the agents have been with RE/MAX DFW for 25 years or longer.
Countless numbers of RE/MAX agents and brokers learned from Mark, relied on both his business acumen and personal counsel, and matured personally and professionally because of Mark’s guidance. He received many professional honors in recognition of his leadership, including RE/MAX International Broker/Owner of the Year, RE/MAX of Texas Broker/Owner of the Year, and the Easterwood Cup Award as the of the Broker/Manager/Executive of the Year from the Greater Dallas Association of REALTORS®, where he served as president in 2004. During his tenure as president, Mark played a pivotal role in the merger of Greater Dallas, Irving/Las Colinas, and Northeast Tarrant County Associations of REALTORS® into one association, the MetroTex Association of REALTORS®. Mark and other key North Texas brokers were the masterminds behind a unified MLS, NTREIS, creating consistent data standards and a single, centralized listings system.
Mark served as Mayor and City Councilman in Coppell from 1985 to 1993. He was a proud and engaged citizen of Coppell, serving on the committee that drafted the Home Rule Charter and as chairman of the bond committee that implemented the infrastructure of Coppell. The success of the city of Coppell is due, in significant part, because of Mark’s efforts, strategy, and leadership.
Mark and Kay shared a love of travel and together explored more than 75 countries. He had family ties in England, Germany, and Portugal. Mark was an avid historian of Europe, Texas, and Dallas. He hosted his annual “History of Dallas” bus tours for his RE/MAX company, with the tours starting where he grew up, Oak Cliff.
Many people will say his legacy will be RE/MAX, and what he did within his community, but his true legacy will be love of family; the way he loved his nieces & nephews and in-laws. This was manifested when he & Kay hosted a river boat cruise in France for 19 family members.
He remained actively involved in his church and community, with friendships starting in Dallas elementary school and continuing through his life.
Mark attended the University of Texas at Arlington and Southwestern Assembly of God University.
Mark’s legacy lives on through the countless agents he mentored, the communities he served, and the friends he made along the way. He will be deeply missed by all of us.
He is survived by his wife, Kay. Brothers-in-law, Dwight Scoggin, Lawrence Scoggin, wife, Terressa, sister-in-law, Elaine Martin all of Wichita Falls, TX. Nephews and nieces: Greg Gibbs, wife, Carol; Sheri Woodward, husband, Mark; Dexter Martin, wife, Karyn; Kendra Lakey, husband, Joshua; Christiaan Scoggin, wife, Katherine; Merredith Whiteley, husband, Dustin; and many great and great, great nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
