Raymond Donald Huffman was born on May 12, 1941, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico to Ethel Chandler. At the age of 12 he was adopted by his aunt Ottie and her husband Norman Huffman. They moved to a ranch in Oklahoma, where he had a pet buffalo and fell in love with the ideal of the Wild West and the American Cowboy. The family moved to Longview, Texas, when he was in junior high, and Don graduated from Longview High School in 1959. He was a Theta Chi at North Texas State University, where he got a bachelor’s degree in 1965. The friends he made in high school and college stayed with him throughout his life. He was a salesman by trade, working in the packaging business in his earlier years and was a real estate agent and broker in the second half of his career. Huff had a daughter Heather in 1971, and he married his wife Sandy in 1981. His favorite past times were laughing, and telling jokes, drankin’, dressing up like a cowboy, dancing, traveling, raising hell, and spending time with his longtime pals and his gals. During the last 10 years of his life, Huff bravely battled many health issues, which finally took him. He was a unique individual and will be missed by many.
Huff is preceded in death by his mother Ottie Mitchell and father Norman Huffman. He is survived by his daughter Heather Huffman in Austin, Texas, and wife Sandy Huffman in Coppell, Texas.
