Dr. Scott Farrar McFadden

Dr. Scott Farrar McFadden passed away suddenly January 24, 2015. He is now with the Lord in his heavenly home. A memorial service was held at GracePoint Church in Coppell, Texas. Scott was born and raised in Syracuse, Kansas where he shared many small town adventures with his childhood friends and family. Even in his early years, he was an individual of many interests and talents. Scott thrived on the challenge and competition of sports playing various sports through high school – football, basketball, track and tennis. Scouting, family vacations, summers lifeguarding and working at Wagner Nursery were all part of his youth. Raised to love music – his mother insisted on hours of practice each day – he learned to play the piano and guitar along with his favorite – the trumpet. Scott became an accomplished lifetime trumpet player – playing through his school years, in the University of Kansas Marching Band, and various jazz ensembles and bands as a hobby after he moved to Texas. In 2012, he recorded a CD of his mother’s favorite hymns as a keepsake for her and for family. Just last May Scott and his mom traveled back to Syracuse for a Memorial Day weekend celebration. Scott played the Star Spangled Banner for the town parade and hymns at the church. Scott had even played for some friends the very day of his passing. An avid reader and always stretching and learning, Scott was also involved with the DFW Writer’s Workshop for a number of years. He authored several stories and even tried his hand at a novel. After earning his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, Scott was accepted into the graduate program at the University of Texas Health Science Center / Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where he was awarded his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology. Scott continued to have a passion for science but later embraced various business and entrepreneurial pursuits. He was co-founder and President of CSW Corp. a marketing and promotional products business. Son Mark helped with special projects out of college; son Matt joined the business full time. While Scott brought his enthusiasm, energy and brilliance to all he did, his greatest treasure and love was his family. Together with Betsy his wife of 41 years they were blessed with the loves of their lives – sons Matt and Mark. Scott was devoted to his family. Over the years, he spent many hours coaching all their youth sports – especially soccer, football, and baseball. In the process, he also took interest in and coached many of their childhood friends and teammates. Scott was preceded in death by his father Charles F. McFadden. He is survived by wife Betsy Adams McFadden, sons Matthew Stirling and Mark Farrar McFadden; mother Geraldine Farrar McFadden of Temple, Texas; sisters Charrie Lynn Jenkins – Arkansas City, Kansas and Jan Jae White - Leoti, Kansas; brother Charles Jon McFadden – Arnold, California; Uncle Jay M. Farrar – Oceanside, California along with many nieces, nephews and extended family. Scott will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
