Our mother, Victoria Marie Cervenka was born April 3, 1930 to John and Frances Cervenka. Her parents were immigrants from Czechoslovakia. She was one of nine children. Her father and family farmed their land. They were a hardworking family with ernest work ethic. They had a deep faith of the Lord and were devout Catholics. After moving from a couple of different Czech communities in Texas they settled in Carrolton, TX. Vickie went to school there and worked at Rainbow Pharmacy, a soda bar, and drug store in Carrollton during her high school days. There she met her future husband Johnny Dobecka, Sr. who had come home from the service. She was hoping she would meet a brave soldier; a man of faith and Johnny was everything she dreamed of. They married November 11, 1946 with family and relatives helping to celebrate their special day. Through the years they were blessed with six children, 3 boys and 3 girls. Johnny Jr., Vickie Lynn, Patty, jimmy, Mark and Kim.
Our mom was always there for us. She was a Girl Scout Leader, PTA president, Mary Immaculate Woman’s Aux., member of the church choir, and Friends of the Library member. She gave time to her community working election polls and hosted Senior Citizens, B-B-Q at their home. She also hosted many family gatherings in their home, too numerous to count. Her door was always open and you had to eat something before you left! If we could describe our mom in one sentence, it would be, “She was the most giving person we ever knew!”
With the Lord’s help we will recover from our loss of her. We will be wounded healers, bearing not only scars of grief, but blessings of having mourned. For there is a passage that says, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” ~ Matthew 5:4
The children of Vickie Dobecka thank you for all of your condolences.
