Tom was born October 16, 1937 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Tom was an only child and preceded in death by his father William Thomas Strickland, mother Elizabeth Gentry Strickland and a daughter Karen Lynne Strickland. He was a graduate of Little Rock’s Central High School, graduated Suma Cum Laude from The University of Arkansas and received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Rice University. He was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. Tom spent the majority of his career in Houston, Texas with Shell Development focusing his research on oil and gas sand control. At the time of his appointment, he was the youngest person at Shell to be named a Research Exchange Scientist. Tom spent a year working for Shell in the Netherlands where he and his family enjoyed traveling in a Volkswagen bus camping throughout Europe. Tom also worked and lived in Louisiana, California, Oklahoma and Calgary, Canada.
After retirement, Tom settled in the suburbs of Dallas and enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great-grand children. He loved Razorback football and his dogs Bridget and Lucky. He hated the Democratic Party.
He is survived by his children Cindy (Gene) Tuckness of Coppell, Texas, David (Tina) Strickland of Houston, Texas and William (Kristin) Strickland of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Candice (Alfred) Kuzov of Coppell, Texas, Rachel (Jeff) Dorman of Austin, Texas, Scott Strickland, Matthew Strickland, William Thomas Strickland III and Haley Strickland; great grandchildren Aurora Kuzov and Alfred Kuzov, and Abel Dorman.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm Friday, October 12th at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Pkwy, Coppell, Tx 75019. A graveside service will be held at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center on Saturday, October 13th at 10 am. Pastor Tim Bach will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society.
