It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you of our Momma’s passing. She went peacefully into her transition on her own terms, as she had promised. Mom was surrounded by her loved ones, free of pain and smiling to the end.
Connie was born in Long Beach, CA, on June 29, 1944 to Ella Green and Herman Hamilton. She was adopted as an infant by Lawrence (Doc) and Ethyl Berry.
She attended Millikan High School in Long Beach and UC Santa Barbara and majored in Music. She met and married the love of her life, Edgar, while working at Sperry Univac in the 60’s. They had a whirlwind courtship and were married within a year on October 7, 1966. After they were married, Connie continued her career in technology where she was one of the first women to work in this field (when computers took up an entire room). She was a modern pioneer and an example for her children and women everywhere.
In her retirement, Mom enjoyed traveling and marking items off her bucket list such as skydiving at age 72 with I-Fly and traveling the Eastern United States, solo in an RV, to be a part of the Sesquicentennial commemoration of the Civil War. Connie was an active member of the ALIR Community, an educational program for seniors; cultivating many close friends she cherished deeply. She was an avid book lover and an original member of the Rowdy Readers Book Club. Connie always had a special place in her heart for the ladies of the Book Club. Her book selections kept them on their toes (i.e. 50 Shades of Gray).
Connie was known at her gym as the “Bad Ass Granny”, lifting weights like RBG and showing us how to do it right! She lived in Hawaiian the 80’s and that began a lifelong love for the island of Kauai. She loved the ocean beaches, watching the whales and sea turtles and appreciated all the beauty island life offers. Mom was a proud hippie and loved her rock and roll music and classical symphonies. Her family and friends loved her snarky wit, which was present through the very end.
Connie is survived by her children, Nicole Baber (Eric Hagen); Heather Jones (Dwayne Jones); Kimberly Everhart (Rodney Everhart) and Jason Baber (Amanda Baber). She is also survived by ten grandchildren; Cody Baber; Tyler Jones; Dylan Baber; Taylor O’Donnell; Andrew Baber; Katelyn Jones; Kailey O’Donnell; Jamie Baber; Liam Baber and Emma Baber; as well as step-grandchildren Jordan Jones and Rose Everhart. She was preceded in death by her son, Lance Baber and husband, Edgar Baber; mother, Ethyl Berry and father, Doc Berry; and step-granddaughter, Olivia Everhart.
Her final days were spent surrounded by family and those she loved. She was in no pain and had many moments of tremendous joy shared with her loved ones, while visualizing a walk on the beach to bring her home.
There will be a celebration of life with a “green burial” on Saturday, January 2, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local Humane Society would make her smile. Thank you to each of you who have played a part in her full and rich life.
Love, Nicole, Heather, Kimberly & Jason
