David E. Brinegar, 73, passed away on March 24, 2026. Born on May 12, 1952, David lived a full and hardworking life rooted in his deep love for family, community, and the land he called home. From this point forward, he will be remembered simply as “David” by those who knew and loved him.
Born and raised in Copperas Cove, Texas, David’s story began with strong country roots. As a young man, he was active in FFA and spent countless hours showing cattle, developing the work ethic and determination that would define his life. He graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1970 and went on to pursue his passion for agriculture at Central Texas College, where he also competed in bulldogging and team roping. He later continued his education in Agricultural Business at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.
David’s career was as varied as it was hardworking. He began with the Soil Conservation Service in West Texas and remained a lifelong rancher and farmer at heart. Over the years, he wore many hats—truck driver, construction worker, and public servant. He worked for both the City of Killeen and the City of Copperas Cove, where he served as Public Works Manager and Code Enforcement Officer. During his time with the city, he also took on a role that brought joy to many, proudly stepping in as Santa Claus for the community. No matter the job, David approached it with steady hands and a willingness to do whatever needed to be done. To those who knew him best, he was simply “Mr. Fix-It,” a man who could build, repair, or figure out just about anything.
On July 1, 1983, David married the love of his life, Kim, beginning a 42-year partnership built on commitment, resilience, and shared values. David had three children—Manon Gaston, Matthew Brinegar, and Courtney Caffey— he instilled in them independence, resourcefulness, and a strong sense of responsibility. David was a steady and supportive presence in their lives, always showing up, always willing to lend a hand, and always leading by example.
David found his greatest peace in the simple things. He had a deep appreciation for old cars, trucks, and antique tractors, and he never passed up an opportunity to work with his hands. Whether he was baling hay under the Texas sun, working on an engine, or tending to livestock, he was most at home outdoors, doing honest work. He had a gift for conversation and never met a stranger, leaving behind a trail of friendships wherever he went.
A dedicated member of his community, David served as Vice President of both the Antique Tractor Club and the Yellow Rose Truck Club. His reliability, quiet leadership, and willingness to help others made a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
David is preceded in death by his parents David "Jake" T. Brinegar and LaNell Brinegar and his sister and brother in law Joyce and Randy Ward.
David is survived by his wife,Kim Brinegar; children Manon Gaston and her husband Doug of Stephenville, TX, Matthew Brinegar of Lubbock, TX, and Courtney Caffey and her husband Neil; his grandson Mack Caffey, and nephew Carl Ward along with many cousins who lovingly reffered to him as "Uncle David".
David often summed up his outlook on life with a phrase that will echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind: “It’s just another day in Paradise.” In his own way, he reminded everyone around him to find gratitude in the everyday moments and beauty in a life well lived.
