Dorothy Malone, 102, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at Hill Country Nursing Center in Copperas Cove, Texas. A loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many, Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication to family, resilience, and joy that will never be forgotten.
Born on November 20, 1922, to Fred and Myrtle Dahl, Dorothy was a true matriarch whose compassion knew no bounds. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Malone, five siblings, and five of her six daughters: Verena, Deborah, Linda, Melanie, and Betty.
Dorothy is survived by her youngest daughter, Naomi, as well as a large and loving family that spans generations: grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and even great-great-great-grandchildren. Her deep love for family was evident in every mile she traveled around the US to visit them, and in the joy that would light up her eyes whenever she had visitors at the nursing home.
One of Dorothy’s greatest passions was visiting and working at Yellowstone National Park, a place she returned to every year and called her second home. Her motto in life was "attitude is everything," and she approached life with unwavering optimism and a generous heart. Always ready to help someone in need, she was the kind of woman who would gladly give the shirt off her back without hesitation.
Dorothy’s warmth, laughter, a sprinkle of sass, and boundless spirit touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on through the many lives she brightened.
A celebration of life will be held on what would have been her 103rd birthday (November 20th) in West Plains, Missouri, where friends and family will gather to honor and remember this incredible woman.
