

He was a 20 year veteran of the United States Army. During his military career, he completed three tours in Germany and was also stationed in Kentucky, Georgia and Texas. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars; Bronze Star Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Army Commendation Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster; Civil Actions Honor Medal 1st Class; Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry; Valorous Unit Award; Good Conduct Medal Clasp; Silver 1 Loop; Meritorious Service Medal, and many more decorations during his time of service.
After his military retirement, Ed attended Central Texas College and earned numerous certificates that enhanced his 23 year Civil Service career.
Ed was an avid hunter, mechanic, carpenter, and motorcycle enthusiast who rode with the Southern Cruisers Riding Club.
Ed is preceded in death by his loving wife, Brigitte, to whom he was married to for 48 years. He is survived by his son Mike and wife Amy, son Eddie, and grandchildren Kayla, Lane, Stormy and Skylar, all of Huntsville, Texas. He is also survived by his brother Jack and wife Jean Clouds, of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, brother Chuck Straton of Vincent, Ohio, and brother in law Franz Winkler of Germany.
Viewing will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, Texas on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove, Texas on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 12:30 p.m.
Graveside to follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
