Edwin Hernandez

On March 28, 2022, Edwin Hernandez, husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, friend and colleague, passed away at the age of 60. Edwin Hernandez was born June 4, 1961 in Newark, New Jersey to parents Jose and Nelida Hernandez.

He enlisted in the United States Army June 12, 1980 at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico until he retired June 30, 2000 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey where he received his Military Occupational Specialty training to become a Light Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (63B3O). Staff Sergeant Hernandez’s previous duty stations were Fort Stewart, Georgia, Karlsruhe and Mannheim, Germany, Fort Lewis, Washington, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and lastly, the place he called home, Fort Hood, Texas. During his tenure in the United States Army, Staff Sergeant Hernandez was awarded the following awards and decorations: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal (4th Award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th award), Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral two, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd award), Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Grenade Bar, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-W Bar, and Driver and Mechanic Badge with Mechanic Bar.

Edwin was preceded in death by his father, Jose Hernandez.

Edwin Hernandez is survived by his wife Sinatiloa Hernandez, his four children: Sharon (Marvin, Sr.) Jones, Edwin (Sarah) Hernandez, Jr., Jasmine (Vanessa) Hernandez and Joed Hernandez. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren; Daisy Hernandez, Marvin Jones, Jr., Kyla Hernandez, Jayden Jones, Edwin Hernandez, Niko Hernandez, and Nova Hernandez. He is survived by his mother, Nelida Hernandez Santiago and his six siblings Daisey Hernandez, Angel Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, Ivan Hernandez, Carlos Hernandez, and Noellie Hernandez.
