

Retired Major James (Jim) Mann, age 76 of Copperas Cove, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
Jim was born to his parents Pat Neff Mann and Evelyn (Johns) Mann on September 4, 1948 in Austin, Texas where he enjoyed an active childhood.
Jim earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Tarleton University which was part of Texas A & M University where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Transportation Management from Florida Institute of Technology in 1981 and was a graduate of the US Army Command & General Staff College and the Army Financial Management School and Tarleton University.
Jim served our country in the US Army for over 20 years, while serving in Vietnam he was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Jim’s overseas assignments also included Germany and Italy. Jim retired from active duty in 1993 from Fort Cavazos, Texas and making Copperas Cove, Texas his home for the last 30 years. After retiring Jim worked for a while in Del Rio working with the border patrol and with the Civil Service on FT Cavazos. Jim was an avid golfer and worked as a golf course superintendent in Copperas Cove.
He was preceded in death was his parents and his wife of 47 years Gaylan Mann.
Jim is survived by a daughter; Miranda Barkley, son; Jordan, a brother David Mann, brother-in-law Tommy Jordan, and his beloved grandchildren; Joshua Barkley, Noah Barkley and Kai Barkley, and many nieces and nephews.
