In loving memory of Joseph Okiyama Carbullido. Joseph passed away on September 14, 2023, at the age of 74, after a long and courageous battle with a series of enduring health challenges. He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honour his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Born and raised in Agat/Agana Guam, Joseph enlisted in the United States Army after high school at the tender age of 17. Joseph fought in the Vietnam War and was stationed in several different countries and states, ultimately retiring after 27 years of dedicated and honourable service, achieving the highest rank of Sergeant Major.
During his time in the military, Joseph fell in love in Germany with Ludivinia, who was from Punta, Romblon, Philippines, and they married a year later on December 8th, 1976. They had four children, their eldest son Michael and three daughters, Kathlee, Julie, and Sherri.
Although Joseph dedicated much of his early life to the military, he was first and foremost a devoted family man. He enjoyed every moment that he shared with his wife, children and grandchildren. He supported and encouraged everyone to do their best and to never give up. He was firm in his words and advice but gentle in his understanding and always thankful to his wife of 48 years. Joseph was passionate about cars, boating, and fishing. Every day he enjoyed listening to music, especially Chamorro music.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Ludy; his son, Michael; daughters, Kathlee, Julie, and Sherri; brothers, Francisco and Thomas; his daughter-in-law, Sheila; sons-in-law, Patrick and Karl; and his grandchildren, Macey, Isabelle, Paul, Joe, Kira, and Rei; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Joseph will be deeply missed and will forever reside in our hearts.
