Maynard Joseph Longway (otherwise known as Rocky) peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the tender age of 91. A devoted husband and father, Maynard left a legacy of kindness and integrity passed down to all his children and grandchildren. And since the passing of his loving wife, Helen in 2011, he still maintained the ambition and love to carry on. But the passage of time never diminished his desire to be with Helen, and with God's grace, his desire was fulfilled.
Born to Robert Alton and Mary Margaret (Geiger) Longway, and the youngest of two other siblings,
Maynard was preceded in death by his brother Robert Longway in 2018, and his sister La Vera Trabucco in 2019. Interestingly enough, all three died at the age of 91. Surviving him are his children, Denise Balvin and spouse Tony (their children Aaron, Christina and Terence); Craig Longway and spouse Jami; Doug Longway and spouse Lisa; and Mathew Longway (his children Dax; as well as Audrey, with fiancé Jonathon; and Christian, with fiancée Meriel and their son Jaxson, Maynard's only great-grandchild).
He grew up and attended school in Highland Park, California. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1948 until 1952. After a short stint with the U.S. Post Office, he went on to pursue his chosen profession in Law Enforcement, obtaining a degree in Criminal Justice. He worked nearly 16 years with the Arcadia, CA police department, rising in ranks to Sergeant, then proudly serving with the Department of Justice as a U.S. Federal Marshall in Los Angeles, CA and Reno, NV until retirement.
Maynard always had great memories to draw from when recalling his own life and career, and never missed a chance to "Shoot the breeze" with any and all whom he met or visited. For years, his favorite pastime was routinely watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Blue Bloods with his wife Helen, continuing the custom nightly with his Daughter Denise and son-in-law Tony while living out his final four years in Texas.
During his entire life, his character never wavered, exacting us to always do what's right in life, despite our path. Maynard will be greatly missed by all those whose lives were touched by his presence, his grace and his compassion.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV.
