

Robert "Bob" Weiss, 80, of Copperas Cove, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 in Temple, Texas. He was born to Herman and Gertrude Weiss on November 18, 1938 in Copperas Cove, but moved with his family to Holland as a child.
As a young adult, Bob served as a member of the 49th Armor Division Texas National Guard for six years; he was called to active duty for one year in 1961.
Bob obtained a Bachelor of Science in education from Southwest Texas State University with a major in art and a minor in science, and a Master of Education from Southwest Texas State University. Mr. Weiss saw that education was important and had a passion for teaching young minds and began his career in education in 1963 at Copperas Cove Independent School District. In the first 10 years at the district, Bob taught many students ranging from first through sixth grades in elementary school and juniors in high school. He then served as principal at Avenue E Elementary and Lovett Ledger Elementary for a total of 36 years. After retirement, Bob continued his passion for education by serving on the CCISD School Board of Trustees for fourteen years. He also was a past member of the National Elementary Principals Association and the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. He served on the high school Site-Based Committee as the community representative and he served on the Sunset Review Committee regarding block scheduling for Copperas Cove High School.
Also in retirement, Bob established a small pottery business and used this skill to share pottery demonstrations with students at various schools in Copperas Cove. He also served as a substitute driver for Meals-on-Wheels.
Bob was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley; two sons, Grant (Mary) Weiss of Dallas, Texas and Jeff(Kandice) Favorite of Los Alamos, New Mexico; two daughters, Heather Dalton of Austin, Texas and Wendy (Charles) Crockett of Columbia, Maryland; his mother, Gertrude Weiss of Holland, Texas; one sister, Frances Lee of Temple, Texas and nine grandchildren, one great grandson, one great granddaughter on the way and various nieces and nephews.
Service will be at 3:00 pm on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove, with a visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions can be made to the Backpack Ministry at Grace United Memorial Church in Copperas Cove.
