

Ronald A. Long Sr., CW3 U.S. Army Retired, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 88. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and decorated veteran, Ron lived a life marked by love, service, and unwavering dedication to others.
Born on April 14, 1937, in Juniata Gap, Altoona, Pennsylvania, Ron was raised in a close-knit family by his parents, Ramond and Virginia Ruth Long, alongside his sister Nancy and brother Steve. He carried the values of hard work, kindness, and respect throughout his life.
Ron proudly served his country for over 20 years as a Tank Mechanic in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Vietnam (1965–1966 and 1969–1970). His distinguished military career earned him numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, among many others. Following his retirement, he continued to serve his community for 22 years at the Fort Hood Auto Craft Shop, generously sharing his mechanical expertise with Soldiers.
On February 7, 1959, Ron married his childhood sweetheart, Joyce Ann Klingensmith. Their love and partnership spanned 54 years until Joyce's passing in 2013. Together, they raised three children: Ronald A. Long Jr., Sheryl Ann Dickerson, and Tina Marie Weant. Ron is also survived by his beloved daughter-in-law Frances, sons-in-law Chris and Scott, eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.
Ron’s life was a reflection of selfless service, quiet strength, and deep compassion. He was a guiding light to those around him, offering wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. His home was one of laughter, comfort, and connection, a place where all felt welcome.
He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A service honoring Ron’s life and legacy will be held at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home located at 211 W Ave B, Copperas Cove, on the 27th of October at 6PM-8PM. The funeral services will be on the 28th at 11 AM at the same location,Ronald will be laid to rest at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas 76542-4945 beginning at 1pm with full military honors.
