

Amos Earl Nelms left his earthly home to meet his Lord and Savior on November 13th, 2023 surrounded by loved ones at the Magnolia Regional Health Center after a brief illness. Amos was born January 21st, 1930 to Herbert and Lillian Nelms. He made the Kossuth, MS area his home for 93 years. After working at the Weaver Pants Factory until they closed, he worked at McGregor Sportswear, before later working and retiring from ITT.
Amos loved the Lord, his family, and his church family. He spent his free time farming, enjoying his home-grown watermelons, and driving cars for local dealers. A dedicated servant to the Lord, Amos was a longtime member of the Tishomingo Chapel Baptist Church where he met his beloved first wife. As the oldest member of the church, he served in many capacities including treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and deacon.
He was preceded in death by parents, his oldest son, Danny Nelms, his first wife and mother of his children, Adlene Nelms whom he was married to for 54 years, his second wife, Verdie Lee Parish Nelms, and his dear friend Bobbie Walters.
He will be lovingly remembered by his sons Stanley (Becky) Nelms and Steve (Trina) Nelms, grandchildren Andy (Tina) Nelms, Tiffany (Brandon) Mitchell, Creighton (Chassey) Nelms, Tyler (Stacy) Nelms, and Katie (Justin) Keeton, as well as a host of great and great, great grandchildren that he loved and enjoyed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Tishomingo Chapel Baptist Church on Thursday at 1:00 pm. Burial following at the Shiloh Presbyterian Cemetery. Bro. Ron Mitchell and Bro. Phillip Caples will officiate the service.
Visitation for Amos Nelms will be at Tishomingo Chapel Baptist Church Wednesday November 14th from 5:00-8:00 and on Thursday from 12:00-1:00
Pallbearers will be Creighton Nelms, Tyler Nelms, Andy Nelms, Brandon Mitchell, Lonnie McKee, Jimmy Parish, and John Paul Waldon.
Honorary Pallbearers will include his senior adult Sunday School class.
