

Mr. Owens died July 2, 2012 at MS Care Center. He was born November 6, 1923 in Nito, WV to the late Harvey and Madge Owens. He enlisted in the US Army in 1941 in Charleston, WV. He was transfered to Ft. Bragg as part of the Calvary Forces. In 1942 he was transferred to the 82nd Airborne Division 325 Glider Infantry Regiment and was stationed in Camp Claiborne, LA for a while. He served in Normandy, Holland and was also part of the Alpha Company Mortar Battery. As a glider, he set in the tail section with two other soldiers looking for checked points and at the beaches. He held the rank of Tech Sargeant and was discharged on June 5, 1945 while stationed at Ft. Dix, NJ.
After receiving his discharge, he moved to Columbus, OH where he worked as an engraver. He worked in Columbus, OH, Springfield, MO and in CA and moved to Corinth in 1976 to work of Hall's as a foreman in the etching room. He retired in 1984. He was a 32nd degree mason and a lifetime member of the VFW. On June 5, 2012 he was awarded the French Legion of Honors Medal by the French Government for his service.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Peggy Owens, son Johnny Owens, parent’s sister Mary Queen, brothers Harvey and Charles Owens.
Survivors include his wife Joan Owens of Corinth, MS; one son, Ted Owens of Corpus Christi, TX; one daughter, Sandy Estes of Kingsmen, AZ; a step-son, Jimmy Harvell and wife Earlene of Corinth, MS; a step-daughter, Linda House and husband Butch of Waco, TX; three sisters, Virginia Derrick of Isle of Palm, SC, Dolly Norris and Millie Bratka Riely both of Bloomville, OH; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
