It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ladron Mattox, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and member of his community. Ladron peacefully departed this world on December 11, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family.
Ladron was born to Oliver Lee and Mattie Rencher Mattox on June 23, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Meghan Murphy Mattox and his brother and sister-in-law, O.L., Jr. and Joyce Mattox.
Ladron, a graduate of Kossuth High School, Northeast Mississippi Community College, and Mississippi State University, dedicated his career to the construction business. He retired in 2020 from Cook Coggin Engineering, leaving behind a legacy of expertise and a passion for construction equipment. His ability to master anything with wheels was a testament to his talent.
A lifelong member of Union Baptist Church, Ladron served in various leadership roles. He was a dedicated 32-degree Mason, contributed significantly to the Prentiss-Alcorn Water Board, and served as a Colonel in Governor John Bell Williams’ Inaugural Committee.
Ladron found joy in gardening and raising cattle. His love for growth, whether nurturing a calf or a garden plant, reflected his appreciation for life's simple pleasures. His interests included Mississippi State sports, local/national politics, and his faithful dogs, Thor and Bullet. Ladron earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed studying World War II history, particularly aviation.
Above all, Ladron cherished his family and instilled in them the values of hard work, education, and love for one another.
Ladron is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Judy Pannell Mattox, and their children: Mike Mattox (Amanda), Brad Mattox (Terri), Jennifer Orman (John), Sarah Holt (Lee), and Katie Weir (Matthew). He leaves a lasting legacy through his grandchildren: Erin Mattox, Lauren Mattox, Micah Haire, John Edward Orman, William Orman, Olivia Weir, Henry Weir, Charlotte Weir, and Mattox Holt.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mandar Jagtap, and the doctors and nurses at Magnolia Hospital, as well as Stephanie Brock, Naomi Spears, Brenda Clark, and Lynn Ellis for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Baptist Children’s Village, P.O. Box 27, Clinton, MS 39060, in honor of Ladron's memory. May Ladron rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
