Shirley Elizabeth Gaines

A celebration of life service for Shirley Gaines, 89, will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Henry Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.

Shirley passed away on May 8, 2026 at Mississippi Care Center. She was born in Tishomingo County on October 11, 1936 to the late Joseph Carroll Medley and Jessie Mae Pitts. She was a graduate of Myrtle High School and then graduated from Northeast Community College. In the mid 60's, Shirley moved to Corinth and began raising her family. She worked for the Corinth City Schools for years before retiring to take care of her daughter, Carol Ann.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Carol Ann Gaines and Mary Margaret Gaines Davis; aunt and uncle who helped raise her, Clarence and Mary Clyde Craig; sister, Lila Price, Lona Odum; and brother, Charles Medley.

She is survived by her son, Craig Benjamin Gaines (Mitzi) of Baldwyn; grandchildren, Rustin Benjamin Gaines, John Tanner Gaines, Mary Elizabeth Franks, Anna Lee Franks, and Jacob Cole Franks; great-grandchildren, Olivia Gaines, Jack Gaines, Will Gaines, and Carolina Franks; brother, Clarence Robert "Bob" Craig (Janie); sister, Nan Craig Miller (Ralph); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Rev. Waring Porter will officiate the services.
