
Travis M. Nelson, Sr., 91, died Friday, February 4, 2011 at Jackson-Madison General Hospital in Jackson, Tn. He had made a career in the U.S.Air Force from 1942-1968, serving on many bases including those in Lyon, France; Omaha, Nebraska; Okinawa, Japan; Iwo Jima; Keesler AFB; and Ulm, Germany. He retired from active service to Air Force Reserves with the rank of major. He then worked with Dana Corporation in Corinth, Ms., until his second retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Corinth, Ms.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at McPeters Funeral Home with Dr. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Henry Cemetery, Corinth, Ms. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McPeters Funeral Home and continue until service time at 1 p.m.
Survivors include his wife Addie Fae Byrum Nelson; one son, Travis M. Nelson, Jr., of Seattle, Wa.; one daughter, Melanie Nelson Matthews, of Jackson, Tn.; one sister, Jimmie Marie Nelson Darwin of Corinth; four grandchildren, Travis M. Nelson, III, Rebecca Dianne Nelson, Benjamin Ryan Matthews, and Emily Suzanne Matthews; and great grandchildren, Aurora Fae Pickering, Sidney Oceana Nelson, and Addison Ruth Matthews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Price Nelson and Autie Cleo Timbes Nelson; one sister, Annette Nelson Byrum ; and one brother, Thadeus Perry Nelson, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Larry Darwin, David Darwin, Bill Kelso, Ryan Matthews, Dwayne Gunn, and Roger Tremble. Honorary pall bearers will be Fritz Byrum, Ben Matthews and Travis Nelson, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
