Victor Kendrick McIntire, affectionately known as “Mac,” age 70, of Corinth, will be honored with funeral services Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 4:00 pm at McPeters Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Kennedy officiating. Visitation will take place from 3:00 to 4:00 pm prior to the service.
Victor passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 13, 2025. He was born on January 10, 1955 to the late Omen K. McIntire and Odean Gregory McIntire. A graduate of McNairy Central High School, he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis).
Throughout his life, Victor held many professional roles, but his true passions were always music and family. A gifted multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, he was especially renowned for his skill on the fiddle, which he played with energy, soul, and precision for more than 50 years. He also mastered the guitar, mandolin, and various other stringed instruments, performing in bands across genres including bluegrass, country, folk, rock, and gospel. He was a proud member of 7 Mile Creek, Hatchie Bottom Boys, and The Smokehouse Band, and often filled in for many other groups.
Victor’s talent and love of music took him to many stages, including Memphis in May, where he headlined with The Smokehouse Band for a crowd of over 50,000; The Station Inn in Nashville, a legendary venue where he played the fiddle alongside some of the finest musicians in the country; and New York City with The Smokehouse Band, where he provided vocals and instrumentals for a patriot album project to be sold and promoted by TNN and CNN. He also had the privilege of opening for Billy Monroe, The Osborn Brothers, Jim and Jessie, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, and Ricky Skaggs. Victor also enjoyed sharing his love of music locally, performing music at many churches, city functions, several plays, and even recently started providing guitar lessons to young children and youth at Tishomingo Chapel Baptist Church.
When Victor was not on a stage, you were sure to find him with his family. He was a devoted family man and proud grandfather, finding deep joy in time spent with his daughter, Molly, and granddaughter, Maelynn James.
Victor is survived by his wife, Alice Johnson McIntire; daughter, Molly McIntire Thornton (Eric) of Iuka; his cherished granddaughter, Maelynn James Thornton; sister, Sharon Awwad (Sam) of Corinth; brother, Danny McIntire of Corinth; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
His nephews will serve as pallbearers, Jared Poindexter, Jim “Jimbo” Ross, Chris Awwad, Jon Awwad, and Ben Dorf. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ernie Welch, Bill Morris, Joe Garrett, and Paul Ross.
He will be remembered not only for his extraordinary musical talent and the joy he brought to audiences and fellow musicians alike, but also for his unwavering love for family and the warmth and humor he shared with everyone he met.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
