Daughter of Margaret Jean Chant (nee Lapierre) and Henry Chant, sister of predeceased Sheila Lawrence (nee Chant), former spouse to Gerard Piche. Beloved mother to Jason Piche, Shana Cook (nee Piche) and former husband Patrick Cook, and Trina Piche. Grandmother to Jazz Cook, Shayla Cook, Makaylee Cook, and Jarecki Cook. Niece to Theresa McCosham and a host of St. Andrews cousins. Cherished cousin to our much loved northern family. Close friend to Carol Ann MacFarlane and Debbie & Dean Furniss. Devoted caretaker to her much loved pets Holly, Oliver, and Daisy Duke.
In earlier years Carolyn worked at Bell, Janet Macdonell Pavilion, Cornwall Community Hospital, and sold Avon. Our mom loved laughing and took immense pleasure in giving gifts to others. She was generous beyond belief. She was a devoted Catholic. Her rosary rounds were extensive and everyone in need was drafted onto her prayer list, which kept her occupied for hours each day. She was a passionate pet lover, her cats had been her constant companions and confidants. Over the years she had several pets, all fortunate to share a home with her. Her door was always open to any lost or injured animal. She took in several strays and ensured no living creature was hurt or endangered. A special note of thanks to the St. Lawrence Valley Animal Hospital staff, past and present, for taking such great care of all her animals. Our mom made the best fudge and five alarm spaghetti. Special occasions were always celebrated at the Village Inn. She loved Billy K’s French Fries, Coca-Cola, Tim Hortons chocolate dipped doughnuts, though most especially, homemade doughnuts made by Aunt Theresa. She was a relentless fan of the Senators, with the exclusion of one goalie, never missing a game and talking to anyone about the most recent score. She was an avid reader and loved books, orchestrating a lending library circuit to anyone who shared this passion of reading. She also loved jigsaw puzzles. She was an exceptional needle crafter. Her Christmas stockings grace many-a-mantle and have become a part of many children and pets’ holiday tradition. She knitted, crocheted, and completed artful cross-stitching and needlepoint that are a testament to her talent and will last as her legacy.
Carolyn passed away November 20, 2021, peacefully in the company and comfort of her children.
Our family would like to thank the exceptional care team at The Ottawa Heart Institute, and well as all the nurses, attendants, and doctors in Cornwall.
A Mass of Christian Funeral will take place at her home parish of St. Francis de Sales on Friday Dec 31, 2021 at 10 am. As per her wishes she will be cremated and laid to rest at the Notre Dame Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made at The Cornwall Humane Society. Carolyn was taken from us far too soon and will be greatly missed.
