Cory "Butta” “Kanonwatase" Benedict

Cherished father of Gauge Benedict (Maddison Hickman) and McKayla Benedict (Albert Jr. Jocko) and proud grandfather of Koa Jocko.

Dear brother of Norman Benedict, April Benedict (Ken Square) and stepbrother to Jamie Martin (Karey), Chris Martin and Amanda Martin.

He will be missed by his godchildren Alexandra Benedict and Carter Benedict along with his stepfather Donald Martin and close friend Lesley Lebrun.

Butta was treasured by his many nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, his many friends and extended family members. Much like his mother, family meant everything.

Predeceased by his parents David and Clara (née Thompson) Benedict, his grandparents George and Emma (née Lazore) Thompson, his grandparents Betty and Joe Laronde and grandparents David Benedict and Theresa Leaf.

Butta was a spirited man that brought lots of laughter and joy to his family and friends and all that knew him. Cory was a certified chef with great culinary talent and enjoyed cooking and creating dishes whether at home or in one of the restaurants that helped with his skills, Chey Place, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino to the shores of Kingston.

He had a passion of making wampum belts and following traditions since he was young. He had a love for racing, gambling and his rap music. He enjoyed teasing and being the life of the party.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West (613-932-8482).

Resting at the family home, 1246 Island Road, Akwesasne, ON from 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2024 with traditional words at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024. Cremation will then take place. Memorial meal to follow.

As expressions of sympathy, Memorial donations to the Mental Health and Wellness, would be appreciated by the family.
