Beloved husband and best friend to Gail Carol Dafoe (née Pollard) for 61 years. He was the devoted father of two sons: Ian Dafoe and Shawn Dafoe (Jennifer). He was also the proud grandfather to two wonderful grandchildren: Evan Dafoe and Sophie Dafoe.
Eric is preceded in death by his parents Ross and Bessie (née O’Shaughnessy) Dafoe and his siblings: Raymond Dafoe (late Pauline), Owen Dafoe (late Beryle) and Marjorie Dafoe.
Eric was a devoted and loving father whose heart was filled with pride for his sons. He admired Shawn for his independence and commitment to his family in Maineville, Ohio, celebrating every achievement along the way. To Ian, Eric was the embodiment of unwavering love and support, always going the extra mile to ensure his son felt deeply cherished. Their bond was a beautiful reflection of Eric's extraordinary compassion and resilience. Ian's happiness brought Eric immeasurable joy, and he stood as Ian’s steadfast protector and a true hero to both Shawn and Ian throughout his life.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Eric was best known for his abilities as an all-around Handyman; whether it be woodworking, gardening or general maintenance around his house, Eric always found a way to keep busy. There was also plenty of time to enjoy fishing, curling, golfing, and watching hockey with a cold beer.
In his early years he spent most of his time working on the family farm in Osnabruck Township, eventually moving to Ingleside & securing a position at the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, working his way up to being Supervisor of Park Operations for 33 years.
Eric had an immense love of cars, and was a devoted Chevy owner; he was incredibly proud of his vehicles, and liked to spend most of his time touring and travelling. He loved travelling with his son Ian, taking numerous road trips across Canada & the United States, including many visits to Maineville, Ohio, to visit his son Shawn and family.
In keeping with Eric’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements under the care and direction of Lahaie and Sullivan Funeral Home West Branch, 20 Seventh Street W, Cornwall, ON (613)-932-8482.
