Beloved wife and mother, “Dee” Stoveken was born in 1944 in Waterbury, Connecticut and was the oldest of the 4 children of Fremont L. and Anna L. Scott including Nancy, Monty, and Kathy. The family moved to Scotch Plains, New Jersey where she grew up and attended Scotch Plains Fanwood High School. While attending Montclair State College to become a teacher, she dated Bob Stoveken and they married in 1968. Their first child KiKi was born a year later and the family moved to California in 1973. Their son Bobby was born in 1974 and they bought a house in Newport Beach in 1976. In addition to becoming a Girl Scout Troop Leader for her daughter, she learned to surf when her son took up the sport. Dee began attending Orange Coast College in the early 80’s, tutoring her fellow students in Math, Physics, Organic Chemistry, and Biology. She contributed to the community for years by becoming a Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady Queen of Angels church. Eventually she received her B.S. in Biology at UCI in 1989, and went on to earn her Ph.D. in Pharmacology also at UCI in 2001. She was part of research and development teams at both The Salk Institute in La Jolla, and at Brain Cells Inc. in San Diego. Dee loved to garden and could be seen frequently riding her bike in the neighborhood.
She succumbed to a short and sudden battle with cancer this past September. She is survived by her husband, two children, and her siblings, all of whom miss her greatly. They ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: The Willed Body Program at UCI.
"In lieu of flowers the family asks that a contribution be made to support the UCI Willed Body Program in memory of Barbara S. Stoveken at https://secure.give.uci.edu/003818/ "
