Mr. Grumman was born on March 23, 1951 in San Francisco. He graduated from UCLA in 1972, and, thereafter, earned his law degree. Shortly into his legal career, he founded the Law Offices of Barry Jon Grumman, where he practiced for over 30 years.
In addition to practicing law, Mr. Grumman contributed a substantial amount of his energy to coaching girls' softball. More than 10 years ago, Mr. Grumman took the helm of the Newport Beach Riptide Gold team, for girls aged 18-and-under. He was widely regarded as one of the most successful and beloved coaches nationwide. He strongly emphasized his players' academic and athletic careers and worked tirelessly to help them find the right colleges -- nearly all of his players earned college scholarships.
Mr. Grumman is survived by his son Sean and daughters Samantha, Amanda, and Sasha, son-in-law Scott Koplik, and daughter-in-law Leslie Grossnickle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, CA. Pacific View is adjacent to The Harbor Day School, where Mr. Grumman's three daughters attended elementary school. The burial will immediately follow the funeral ceremonies.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Newport Beach Riptide Gold.
