February 5, 1932 – July 20, 2022
C. Ronald Livingston made an unforgettable impact on the lives he touched
before passing away on July 20, 2022. Ron will always be remembered as a fierce
competitor with an infectious smile, generous spirit and positive attitude.
Born on February 5,1932, Ron grew up in Alhambra, CA and earned his bachelor’s
degree from UCLA in 1954. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity,
and a star tennis and basketball player. He wa s one of the most lettered varsity
athletes in UCLA history. He competed in three NCAA Tennis Championships,
winning the 1954 NCAA doubles title and played starting guard on the basketball
team under the legendary coach, John Wooden. Wooden would end up being one
of the greatest influences in Ron’s life, instilling in him a lifelong belief system:
Always give your best and great things will happen.
On June 19, 1954, Ron graduated from college, commissioned in the Navy and
married Sandra Beesley. After he served in the Navy, Ron and Sandra moved to
Arcadia and welcomed two children, Lori and Brad. When their children were in
college, Ron and Sandra moved to Laguna Beach, which has been home for the
past 45 years.
In 1969, Ron joined Eric Wittenberg as Vice President to form the Wittenberg-
Livingston home building company. He developed his experience in the builder
industry, starting in the rock and gravel business with his father. From that point,
he gained a firm foundation in the basics of the construction industry and went on
to become a successful home builder in Southern California.
Ron’s winning spirit was further demonstrated through his generosity in the
philanthropic community. After being treated for a heart attack in 1994, Ron had
such wonderful care at Hoag Hospital that he served nine years on the Board of
Directors for their Foundation. After also serving on the Board of Directors for
Southern California Golf Association from 1993-2000, he formed the Livingston
Family Foundation alongside his family to help accelerate the SCGA Foundation’s
scholarship program for deserving young golfers. Ron’s passion for education
inspired him and his family to actively support foster youth organizations like
CASA, Orangewood Foundation and Just in Time.
Ron was so proud of his family and never missed an opportunity to talk about
the achievements of his children and grandchildren. Affectionately known by
his grandchildren as Popie, he loved creating memories with his family, often
spending holidays, birthdays, and special occasions in Indian Wells. Popie
always found joy on the golf course competing and teaching the short game to
his grandchildren, playing dominoes with his beloved wife and bridge with many
friends. Most importantly, Ron cherished his love and devotion for his wife,
Sandra. In June, they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary, still madly in
love as when they first married. There will be no doubt that his legacy and spirit
will absolutely live on and thrive through his family.
He will forever be remembered for his leadership, values, and commitment of
loving his family well.
