Dale Harris Mowery passed away from his earthly estate on January 3, 2017, at the age of 87. He was born on February 18, 1929, in Logan, Ohio, to Edwin Gould Mowery and Alta M. (Butts) Mowery. Dale outlived his parents and his siblings: Roger M. Brown, O’Neil “Peck” C. Mowery, Audrey J. Pennell, and Glenn E. Mowery.
Dale leaves behind Nancy P. Mowery, his spouse of 58 years; his sons: Kurt H. Mowery and Karl D. Mowery; his daughters: Karen A. Thibodeau and Kate L. Hawkins; his grandsons: Kyle H. Mowery, Keaton F. Mowery, John M. Treadwell, and Myles M. Hawkins; his granddaughters: Laura L. Krisman and Rachael O. Ruga; his great grandsons: James S. Krisman, Charlie M. Treadwell, and Jad Lee Ruga; and his great granddaughters: Charlie Grace Mowery and Emily Louise Krisman.
Dale received both undergraduate (1953) and graduate degrees (1958) from Ohio State University. As an undergraduate, he was a member of the Naval ROTC and later proudly served in the Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant (JG), and qualified as Officer of the Deck (Underway). In 1959 he began his aerospace career – intentionally “pushing the edge of technology.” In the same year, he moved his family from Ohio to California. In 1962, he joined Douglas Aircraft (which became McDonnell Douglas and then The Boeing Company). During his 49-year career, he advanced both himself and others with their aerospace careers, and was a highly-valued member of his company. He retired from senior engineering management at Boeing in January 2013.
Dale was admired and loved by many, who miss him dearly. He loved bridge, playing football, and his Ohio State Buckeyes. He was adventurous throughout his life and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, boating, and hiking with his family. Later in life, he became an avid golfer. After retiring, Dale remained in close contact with family and friends who loved and cherished him.
As we remember his life, we look forward to seeing him again in heaven: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life service will be held at the Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, CA 92625, on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
