Daniel was known to many as a lawyer of international renown, but to those of us gathered today, he was of our family--a son, a brother, a husband, a father--or a friend.
Daniel was born on November 16, 1952 in Independence Missouri, the second of four children. All of his siblings have distinguished themselves in their educations at elite colleges and universities and in the professional careers that followed. It was Daniel, however, whose path could not be contained on this continent. After graduating high school at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, Daniel earned his BA from Princeton University and his MA from Oxford University in England. He returned to the states to graduate cum laude from Georgetown Law Center. After three years at a Wall Street law firm, Daniel moved to London where he practiced law for over 30 years.
After a decade focused on acquiring his law degree and launching his professional career, Daniel married the love of his life Malia Shipp in Grace Cathedral atop San Francisco’s Nob Hill. Soon Daniel and Malia were blessed with twins, Daniel and Bella and later with son Peter. The family thrived in London, as did Daniel’s career. As was their plan, the family moved to Laguna Hills where the Daniel, Bella and Peter could attend public schools in America while Daniel brought his legal career to an organized conclusion. Daniel’s illness and sudden and expected death thwarted his plan to join his family later this year to begin a new era in his life and theirs.
Daniel will be missed greatly by his professional colleagues and his friends on several continents, but most of all by his mother and siblings and Malia, Daniel, Bella, and Peter.
