Avis de décès de Edith Karl Hanlon
AUX SOINS DE

Pacific View Mortuary & Memorial Park

Edith DeKlyne Karl, born January 20, 1936 in Pasadena, was the fifth child born to Willard and Edith Karl.

In her early years, Edie spent her free time at Eaton Canyon Stables enjoying her horses, swimming at the Altadena Town and Country Club and spending wonderful times at the family home in Laguna Beach.

She attended Anoakia School for Girls in Arcadia (graduating in 1953) where she enjoyed participating in sports, student government and serving as a Huntington Hospital Candy Striper. She made friendships there that sustained her throughout her lifetime.

Edie went on to attend the University of Southern California where she pursued her teaching credential and was affiliated with Alpha Phi Sorority. She met her husband, Edward Hanlon (Phi Delta Theta), at USC in 1954 and they were married in 1956 during their senior year.

Upon graduation, she went on to teach in the Pasadena City School system until retiring in 1960 to raise her family. Edward Jr. was born in 1960 and Karla was born in 1962.

In 1968, the family moved to Ed’s hometown of Newport Beach. She quickly became active in scouts, PTA and St. James Church where she served on the Wedding Guild and Altar Guild for many years.

Following her husband’s sudden death in 1978, Edie returned to teaching. She was associated with Carden Academy of Huntington Beach from 1981 to 2011 where she served as a teacher and principal for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband and siblings Margret Thomas of Portland, Oregon; George Karl of Newport Beach; Willard Karl Jr. of Huntington Beach; and James Karl of Florida.

She is survived by her son Edward Hanlon Jr., and his wife Karen, of Huntington Beach; her daughter Karla and husband Martin Lunder of Greenwich, Connecticut; and her granddaughters Kirsten Lunder (New York), Emma Lunder (Connecticut) and Elise Lunder (Vermont). She was blessed with the joy of the company of three generations of nieces and nephews.
