Helen was the only child of Leo and Margaret Steffin. Helen's friends called her "Steffy.”
As a young girl Steffy was involved in many activities that kept her busy. She was an avid swimmer, she loved the water; she was involved in the Girl Scouts, school plays, marching band, where she played the clarinet, and cheerleading. After high school she attended business college in St. Paul, Minnesota.
After graduating from business college, she left Marshall with her friend Shirley and they drove to Hollywood, California where she lived in a small one bedroom apartment she shared with 5 girls behind Grauman’s Chinese theatre. Steffy worked as a secretary for a prominent psychiatrist in Beverly Hills, California.
Steffy met the love of her life, Robert Casum, on a trip to Catalina. She was married to Robert on August 6, 1949. They welcomed their first child, Cassandra, in August of 1950. Their second child, Bobby, was born in March, 1953.
Steffy worked for Safeco insurance as a policy typist for fifteen years. Steffy also enjoyed being part of a bowling team with her girlfriends. After retiring from Safeco, she volunteered at FV Hospital for ten years.
Steffy was also a member of the Orange County arthritis association where she had many friends. Steffy enjoyed her membership in the Orange County performing arts center where she often attended the opera with her dear friend Helen.
Steffy traveled the world with her husband Robert and had many adventures. Helen and Robert were married for 56 years before Robert passed away in 2005.
One of Steffy's favorite adventures was riding on an elephant. She loved to going to Las Vegas; it was one of her favorite vacation spots. Steffy enjoyed going to the Fountain Valley senior center every Tuesday where she would enjoy the company of her friends. She always looked forward to the special events they had during the holidays.
Steffy loved her cars; she fancied Cadillacs and had many throughout her life. The last Cadillac she had, she named “Diamond Lilly.”
Steffy made many friends: she was beautiful, happy and very positive. Everyone loved being around her, she was a bright light . She will be deeply missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Steffy's mission statement consisted of the 3 s's: Suffer, sacrifice, and save=success.
Steffy had four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She loved being with her family. She had a very happy long life. Steffy is survived but her son Bob and his wife Cyndi, daughter Cassandra and her husband Freddy, her grandchildren Jeremy & his wife Valerie, Sabrina, and Catie, and her two great-grandchildren, Drake and Gavin. She will remain forever in our hearts.
