I just heard of Jim's passing. 
I was at RPI, in the Delta Phi Fraternity, when Griff  arrived from Trinity; he was a great addition to our brotherhood, and a great friend.
When we left Troy, we went separate ways, and I wondered, from time to time where he was and how he was doing. In reading the collection of memories, it is clear that his sense of humor, his intellect and quickness, and his judgement never left him. As a young man at Rensselaer, he was wise beyond his years. God bless him and give him rest.

I am sorry for your loss. I worked with Jim during our engineering days in the turbofan project. He was brilliant with wit and humor.

It was such an honor and a privilege working with Jim as his executive assistant for 8 years during the Garrett/AlliedSignal years.  Jim taught me so much about leadership, respect and kindness blended with a touch of laughter.  Jim was an exceptional leader in the Boardroom and he never hesitated to roll up his sleeves and head to the shop to meet with employees on the floor.  He truly cared about everyone at all levels and was deeply dedicated to the success of the business.  Jim will always be remembered as a greatly respected and gifted leader with a wonderful sense of humor who loved his family very much.  Working with Jim were some of the best years of my career.  We are blessed with so many wonderful memories and Jim's stories are legendary in our household.  Jim, Patty and family are frequently remembered fondly and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

We were very surprised to see Jim's photo in the Phoenix newspaper, with your California address. We had no idea that you had moved away. We are very sorry for your loss. When I was a kid. I looked up to my big cousin Jim. I doubt he knew it or would believe it if I told him.  Maybe that's why I never told him.  I knew he was smart. After all, he went to college. He married  Pat Dowd.  I knew he worked hard. He made jet engines, ran a big company.  I knew he was a good father. Just look at his kids. 

Jim always made me laugh. He even kept me laughing when he had to climb a mountain of pain and frustration just to share a joke.  There was much courage in that laughter.  He did not deserve the hand he was dealt but he played it as best he could.  He showed us how to live.  He set the standard.  He is a hero. And surely, his wife Pat is too.  We are all the better for it.

I had a chance to work close to Jim "griff" in the mid 1970's them in the 1990's with Airbus. Coïncidentally I saw a photo of Jim holding our Young son at the time during a visit to the Versailles Palace. We will never forget the pleasant gentlemen. Our deep sympathy to all of his family.

I worked closely with Jim during our engineering days at AiResearch/Garrett/AlliedSignal, and later in our division management careers.  He was responsible for successful engine developments, and for much of the success of the Pneumatics division.  He was brilliant at both careers. and a delightful friend and co-worker.  His wit and humor will be long remembered by everyone he knew.  I feel privileged to have known Jim.
