Wife, mother, grandmother, registered nurse, socialite
Ann was born in Rochester, New York, on Aug. 3, 1928, to Harold and Doris Cathryn Toebe. She spent her childhood there with her younger brother and sister, Hal and Barbara. During her childhood, she was surrounded by aunts, uncles, grandparents, and friends. Some of her favorite early memories are of gatherings with family and friends at the Toebe house.
Ann graduated from the University of Buffalo as a registered nurse. She married Russell Arthur Pange on Aug. 22, 1953, and they moved to San Francisco, California. She put Russell through podiatry school working as a public health nurse in the Marina District near Fisherman’s Wharf. She also became a busy mother, having three children within a span of 3 ½ years. After Russell graduated, they moved to Newport Beach where he began his podiatry practice in 1961.
Ann and Russell shared a life of travel, socializing, buying and selling real estate and raising their family in Newport Beach, California. Their travels included many trips to Europe, where they acquired beautiful French antiques for their homes.
They are survived by three children; Marc (CarolAnn) Pange of Palm Springs, Lisa Jarvie (Jeff) of Newport Beach, and Ann McClelland (Mark) of San Carlos; and 6 grandchildren; Christopher and Alexandra Pange, Ann Jarvie Foy (Brody) and Lauren Jarvie, and Graham and Evan McClelland.
Ann’s life in Newport Beach involved work with many charitable organizations. She was a member of the Founders of the Orange County Performing Arts Center, the Discovery Museum of Orange County, the Orange County Philharmonic Society, the Sophisticates (a support group for assessment & treatment services), the Cover Girls (raised money for the Orangewood Home for children), The Friends of the Library of Newport Beach, The Sound of Music Chapter of the OC Performing Arts, the Balboa Bay Club, the Founders Plus, the Opera Pacific Society of Founders, the Big Canyon Philharmonic Committee, and the Center Stars.
Ann had a love of interior decorating and gardening. She had a tenacious spirit. She worked hard to maintain her health. She loved her family and her loyal, sweet dog, Spencer.
Her dear husband, Russell, preceded her in death in 2004. Ann died peacefully in her Palm Springs home on December 28, 2010, at the age of 82 of causes incident to old age.
Our thanks to Marion, Malu, Lee and others who worked so hard to make her happy and comfortable. We are grateful to her family, friends, and others who blessed and touched her life with their many kindnesses.
