

Jean attended North High School and was awarded an academic scholarship to Western Reserve University in Cleveland and received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Home Economics. There she met and married Frank James Opatrny in 1946. They raised four children while residing in the three states of Ohio, Illinois, and California.
During her 53 years as wife and homemaker, Jean excelled as a culinarian, seamstress, furniture refinisher, and oil painting copy artist. In retirement years she taught adult education in the techniques of microwave cooking. She was a member of Torrance Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Presbyterian Church as a choir member.
Jean enjoyed hosting her family and friends at holidays, Circle groups, and was a member of DAR, PEO and Las Ninas organizations. In 2015 she moved to Freedom Village with several of her very dear friends. The group continued to socialize and Jean was dedicated to "get involved." Some of her paintings were displayed at Freedom Village on several occassions.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister and her adoring husband, She is survived by her four children, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
