I am pained to write thes; delinquent due to the difficulty in sharing the loss and admiration for John.
I consider myself blessed to have received open arms into the Hastings family, insomuch that I feel like a member. They reside upon a pillar of the greatest respect!

Dear Gerri, John, Wendy, spouses and Grandchildren: I share your sadness as this larger than life hero has passed to reside on the other side.

John’s stride was secondary to his smile! It was my pleasure to travel with him on business as he would recall a day when he conducted business on a handshake. More than pleasing the client, was my desire to make John proud. He would stand in the back of presentations and I felt like I was making my Grandfather proud. 
- John liked to dine in the hotels where we stayed and didn’t enjoy driving- and I challenged those habits! I recall talking him to drive 20 minutes in Houston to a wonderful Polish restaurant that gave us frequent conversations. He would abide my requests and could recall the places and occasions with detail.

John was so proud of his family; his grandchildren, children and his beloved wife Gerri. He would frequently espouse his dedication to his health, so he could care for his wife. Above all, John was a husband! He epitomizes that role of a husband!

He would share his pride in John and Wendy; as a parent, he knew their faults and weeknesess, yet he became their most ardent advocate. You were his pride!

And John loved his posterity! He would have done anything to ensure their happiness and success.

John was my hero and worthy of the pillar I placed him on. He could encourage with same diplomacy he criticized- never making you feel bad, but rather belief in you. He would always remind me of one of his guiding statement about how a pencil has a lead and an eraser because he would stand beside me. Running out of space. I miss you John, my mentor and friend!
