Ken was born on October 2, 1950, in Montclair New Jersey and raised in Greenwich Ct. He graduated from the University of New Haven with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He and his wife, Marianne, started their new life in southern Ca in January, 1978, where Ken began his illustrious career in the medical device industry. After holding various positions in product development at McGaw Labs, Shiley, Gish and Trimeydine, Ken was recruited to senior roles in incubator companies. Ken has served at the Senior Research and Development Management level for over 25 years. He has guided product development for five different companies, three of which spanned research, development and production introduction from inception through their successful sale to Fortune 500 corporations. From 1994 to 2005, Ken served as Vice President of Research and Development for Biopsys Medical, which developed and marketed a device technology for use in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer followed by Genyx Medical, a urology based company. From 2005 to 2007 Ken served as the Senior Research and Development and Operations Management Consultant for two ophthalmology companies. In 2008 Ken joined Ivantis, as the Vice President of Research and Development, responsible for the design, development and the clinical performance of the Hydrus, a stent used to treat glaucoma. Ivantis was sold in January 2022.
Despite Kens success, he remained a humble, kind, down to earth guy. He mentored many young engineers and was remembered as a team player. Ken’s one weakness was performance cars. He was the proud owner of a red, 1971 Detomaso Pantera. Ken was a member of the Pantera Owners Club which raced at Riverside Raceway in the early 1980’s. His car won The Concourse De Elegance at the Newporter Hotel in 1979 and was again exhibited in 1985. Ken passed his love of cars to his son Matthew. Ken and Matthew attended many car shows. One of their favorite past times was going to car dealerships to test drive cars. They participated in Wide Open Baja, a 500 mile off road experience and attended the Audi Racing School at Sonoma Raceway. While Marianne indulged Ken’s love of cars, Ken indulged Marianne’s love of travel. Together, they took many memorable trips to Europe, the Caribbean Islands, Botswana, Greece, Turkey and Costa Rica.
Ken is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marianne, his son Matthew and his wife Kiley of Dallas TX, his sister Phyllis Galt of Cambridge MA and numerous cousins along the East Coast.
