AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Larry Wong

AUX SOINS DE

Pacific View Mortuary & Memorial Park

Larry Wong, of Orange County, California, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 89.

Born in the early 1930s to immigrant parents from Guangdong, China, Larry was the third of five children. He and his siblings grew up in Georgia where they helped run a small family grocery store. As an ambitious young high school student, he played football and displayed strong leadership as class officer. After high school, his family moved to Northern California where Larry attended UC Berkeley. He pursued his passion for criminal justice and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology. He later joined the United States Marine Corps where he rose to the rank of First Lieutenant. During his military service, Larry was also an active member of the Marine Corps boxing and football teams.

Honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, Larry moved to Southern California and embarked on a career in criminal justice. During this time, he befriended the legendary war hero turned actor, Audie Murphy, who was researching drug trafficking in the Los Angeles area for an upcoming motion picture.

Larry met Loraine, the love of his life and wife of 64 years, at a college dance. They settled in Orange County, California where they raised their family.

While raising his family, he continued to work in law enforcement with Los Angeles County. He was dedicated to helping others and fervently fought for justice for all victims. Larry expanded on his education and earned his Juris Doctorate Degree while he attended night school. He joined the Orange County District Attorney’s Office as a Deputy District Attorney. He briefly entered the private sector, but his passion for criminal justice led him to the Los Angeles County, District Attorney’s Office as a Deputy District Attorney, where he served the People of Los Angeles County for 26 years. Larry was a dynamic man who excelled in the courtroom as an advocate for victims of violent crimes. No matter what the challenge, he inspired all who knew him with his determination to fight to the end. Ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes and promoting public safety for the community was a core belief that empowered him.

He was a proud member of the California District Attorney Association Master Trial Advocacy College, also known as the “Top Guns”. He also served as a Judge Pro Tem. After his retirement, Larry was honored with a Certificate of Merit.

Larry was a family man and the foundation of his family, and because of this, a cornerstone gravesite was chosen for his final resting place. He is survived by his loving wife, five children, their spouses, five grandchildren, one brother, and two sisters. While Larry attained many titles throughout his lifetime, his most cherished ones were husband, father, and grandpa.
