Marianne Haney passed away peacefully in her sleep beside her husband, Jon Haney, on June 3, 2022 at her home in Orange, California.
Marianne was a naturalized citizen of the United States, coming from Munich, Germany in 1960. She lived in Carmel, Phoenix, and Foster City (just south of San Francisco) before settling in Orange. While in Phoenix, Marianne earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Arizona State University and worked as an operating room nurse at the Arizona Heart Institute. She later moved to Foster City where she worked as an operating room nurse at Stanford University. In the late 1980s Marianne was diagnosed with cancer and retired from hospital nursing. She subsequently moved to Orange and married Jon Haney. After years of treatment, Marianne was declared in remission from her original cancer. However, the chemo caused other issues. Marianne could no longer work with sick people in a hospital setting so she continued using her nursing skills taking care of high-profile patients recovering from cosmetic surgery. Her patients loved her personality and “Gentle German” demeanor – always smiling, always caring, but with a wonderful sense of humor. Marianne retired from nursing in 2012. Several years later she was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment. She was a daily regular at 24 Hour Fitness and always took time to give sidewalk consultations to her friends. She was loved by all who knew her. Marianne was a member of La Purisima Catholic Church in Orange and participated daily until the onset of dementia. Marianne and Jon were able to travel to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia and go on wonderful cruises until her health declined.
Marianne was predeceased by her son Robert John Oursland. Surviving relatives include stepson Eric Haney (wife Nikki, daughter Kai and sons Ean and Jack), Dana Point, stepson Keith Haney (son Kevin), Aliso Viejo, sister Inge, Winhoring Germany, niece Katrin Benninger-Zentai (husband Adam, sons Adrian ad Julian), Vienna Austria, nephew Martin Benninger, (wife Paola, sons Maximilian and Valentin) Wittenbach Switzerland (suburb of St Gallen), nephew Stefan Benninger, Turging Germany, granddaughter Mackenzie Ramsay (brother Austin), Glendale Arizona, cousin Hans-Joachim Windhager, Hamburg Germany, and her loving and devoted husband, Jon.
Marianne is having a private burial at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, California. A Celebration of Her Life is also private and by invitation only. Thank you for honoring Marianne’s wishes.
