Devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandmother, Marta Lozano was raised in El Paso, TX and moved to Los Angeles with her family as a teenager. Marta attended Immaculate Heart High School and UCLA. During her time in college, she met her future husband, Ignacio (Nacho) E. Lozano, Jr., former publisher of the Spanish language daily newspaper La Opinion. Marta and Nacho became fixtures in Los Angeles and Orange County civic and community activities as integral supporters of the burgeoning Latino communities, as well as the arts, education and healthcare generally. It is fair to say her chosen career was the building and nurturing of her own family. Marta imbued her children with healthy doses of humility, selflessness and devotion to others. She felt that understanding the diversity of peoples and cultures is a gift and so took every opportunity to travel and expose her children to a big, exciting and stimulating world. She also greatly enjoyed sharing time on a boat cruising the islands in the Sea of Cortez or the Pacific Northwest with her family and friends.
Marta Lozano is survived by Nacho, her devoted and loving husband of 67 years, of Newport Beach, CA, her children Leticia, Jose, Monica and Francisco, as well as her 9 grandchildren, her brother Jose Navarro and her sister, Hon. Anna Maria Baca, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In her only public interview, given during a Mother’s Day event, Marta was asked what her primary goal had been while raising her kids. She answered, “I always wanted my kids to grow up to be close friends.” By all accounts, she succeeded in extending that sentiment to her entire family.
