Mealdey Ith Tan, affectionately known as Mel, was born on February 26, 1965 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to Sunleng Khy and Kyat Ith. She moved to Ohio as a child, and relocated to California as a teen where she had remained since. She married Phalkun Tan who preceded her in death in 2013, and had 2 children, Tepthida Kolap Tan Warner and Kunnahry Kyat Tan.
Funny, caring, and kind, Mel set the bar for what an amazing mother should be. Not only did she shower her daughters with an abundance of love, she made sure that others felt that way too, with a lot of her friends calling her “Mom” as well. She enjoyed Vietnamese food so much, that her family nickname in Cambodian translated to “Vietnamese”. Mel absolutely adored the family dog, Hershey, and always referred to herself as Hershey’s grandma, and would make sure to cook special food just for her. The two of them were able to do what Mel loved best; walking at the beach.
Mel loved to take care of everyone and constantly put others before herself. Cooking was her passion and her way of showing love. She led the perfect example of being kind to others without expecting anything in return. Hardworking and dedicated, she was determined to complete every task and challenge she faced. The light inside of her was enough to brighten the darkest of areas.
Mel would want everyone to know that her work here is done. She received an offer she couldn’t refuse for a vacation of peace and eternal rest. An incredible sign-on bonus she gets is the reunion of friends and family she hasn’t seen in a long time. Mel’s spirit is carried on by her 2 daughters, a son-in-law, her partner, Terry, mother, 2 brothers, sister, and an abundance of nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be forever loved and always missed.
